Petition Tag - destruction

1. Say NO to dense housing units at Coyote Creek / Eaglequest Golfcourse

Please help to support the protection of wildlife & little greenspace we have left in Surrey by signing this petition against the destruction of significant Coyote Creek / Eaglequest golf course for 300+ dense housing units!

This outlandish scheme involves ripping apart half the course in order to build 2 four story condos, townhomes & duplex's in an area that is already congested - with only 1 high school to support this sudden growth development (Fleetwood Park) that is currently overcrowded as is. The units will run parallel to 152nd Street, resulting in heavier traffic flow in which a wide volume of Surrey roads already face. This overcrowdment needs to stop in our community AND city!
Let's get our voice out & STOP the destruction of our greenspace in a community/city that is already overpopulated, on a property that is classified as a Surrey landmark!

Please sign the petition and feel free to leave a comment for city council. Our voices WILL make a difference as the City would like to hear from the public before rezoning is granted!

2. Stop Coral Reef Destruction

Coral reefs are vitally important for the progression of our society into the future, and for the betterment of all peoples who live near, or is affected by, the sea.

Coral reefs provide us with protection from natural disasters, an abundant and diverse amount of food, and an untold amount of new, life saving drugs unknown to science. And that is only scratching the surface of the beneficial uses of coral reefs to humans. Not only are coral reefs beneficial to humans, but also to the abundant amount of life that this precious ecosystem maintains.

Coral reef ecosystems have the highest biodiversity of all ecosystems in the world; even rainforests do not contain the vast amounts of species that coral reefs house.

Hundreds of thousands of species call this ecosystem home, and many have yet to be discovered. However, this ecosystem is being threatened by climate change and ocean acidification. About 60% of coral reefs are being threatened today, and by 2050 that number is set to increase to 100% of all reefs worldwide.

3. Save the Great Barrier Reef from Carmichael Coalmines

We are writing as concerned citizens regarding the proposed development of the Carmichael coalmines in the Mackay region, and the risks posed by the Adani mining company in their mission to build the coalmine in the middle of this beautiful Natural Heritage Area.

The development of these mines will have many horrific impacts on the fauna and flora in Australia, our precious water usage, the pollution of our environment, precious indigenous culture and the tourism industry.

These mines will endanger 60 species in the Great Barrier Reef, use 12 billion litres of precious water every year, have an overwhelming contribution to the "carbon" bomb, produce four times the fossil fuels of New Zealand and have countless other negative impacts if Adani mining company goes through with their plans.

More can be read about here:

4. Save Ancient Olive Trees in Crete

Protect Crete's ancient olive trees from being fed to the fire. "These trees helped our parents put clothes on our backs and send us to university. It is thanks to these trees that Crete is what it is. Its cultural development is thanks to them.

Yet no one cares for these olive trees that have fed millions of people for thousands of years, that have been worshipped and adored."

In this recession the demand for firewood has rocketed. Hardship has forced people to cut them down to make a meagre living.

These trees are our legacy.

5. Stop USA & Israel Drone Attacks in Pakistan, Yemen & Palestine

USA & Israel have for many years by falsefying info deceiving the world & illegally target killing, murdering citizens without court trail in any international court of law on sovereign nations, individuals, crossing international boundaries & territories.

6. STOP THE DEMOLITION OF ISLAMIC HERITAGE SITES IN MAKKAH AND MADINAH

Je commence par le Nom de Allâh, Le tout Miséricordieux, Le Miséricordieux
الحمد لله والصلاة والسلام على سیدنا محمد رسول الله

Louange à Allâh, et que davantage et sans cesse, les honneurs et élévations divins soient accordés à notre maître Mouhammad le Messager de Allâh.

LETTRE OUVERTE ET PETITION ADRESSEE A SA MAJESTE LE ROI DE L’ARABIE SAOUDITE, LE SERVITEUR DES DEUX HARAM CHARIF Sir !

7. Save Bradford Odeon

On 22nd September 1930, the New Victoria Theatre opened for the first time. The biggest picture house outside of London, the theatre held 3,318 people at any one time. In 1950, it changed names to the Gaumont franchise and between then and 1969, stars such as The Beatles, Tom Jones, Shirley Bassey and Lulu came to perform to the masses.

In 1969, the picture house was converted into twin screen operation and in 1988, was further converted into triple screens. It was one of the most successful Odeon's in history.

It closed its doors for the final time on 2nd July 2000. Grange Estates bought it and put planning permission in for a casino and bar complex. They pulled out in 2003 because of "Bradford's weak economic climate." Then, Yorkshire Forward bought it and when they were disbanded in 2011, the building was passed on to the Government's Homes and Communities Agency. They plan to demolish the iconic building and build four glass-fronted office towers which the City of Bradford does not need. More offices when Thomas Cook has shut down opposite? Another hotel opposite the Jurys Inn and in the vicinity of the Travelodge, Premier Inn and Hilton?

8. STOP THE DESTRUCTION OF NATURE PARK ZLATIBOR

The magnificent evergreen forest on Mt. Zlatibor is letting go under strikes of chainsaws and heavy machinery.

With pine trees taller than 15 meters and older than 70 years, stretching over 500 acres of forest land it is a predominantly influential Nature Park and self preserving ecosystem on Zlatibor.

Planted immediately upon the end of the Second World War it bore status of protected natural wealth and had become a habitat to numerous animal and plant species.

Today it's a host to a large number of families of squirrels and rabbits, also turtles, moles, hedgehogs, ant colonies, lizard dens and various birds such are robins, woodpeckers, ouzels, owls, wild pigeons, magpies, etc.

Abusing state's law regulations on environmental protection and disregarding obligatory acts of Aarhus Convention the local authorities issued The General Plan according to which the Nature Park is turned into zone of tourism and high commerce.

WARNING: The Nature Park is undergoing heavy deforestation and soil devastation by local Zlatibor authorities and Serbian Orthodox Church. Biodiversity is threatened with extinction as workers and machinery plow through in preparation to build communication and drainage network.

IMPORTANT: Please pay attention to the 5 min documentary below.

9. Save the animals of Devon

I am writing about the proposals to build a new town called Cranbrook near where I live. If you do this, millions of animals, birds, insects and even people will lose their homes and livelihoods. I know that it is now far too late to stop the building, but it is not too late to reduce the plans to half the size. This is the flood plains that you are about to build on so your building work will only be destroyed if there is a flood, which there is a high risk of.

This is supposedly to reduce homelessness and to increase the number of people employed, but it will actually destroy more employment by destroying the farmers’ land and the forest where the forest rangers work. If we do need more business jobs, old buildings can be reconstructed and reused wherever possible. As for the homeless issue, I feel that the right way to deal with this would be to reuse old homes wherever possible and to reduce household costs.

Haven’t you ever taken the time to observe and try to understand the beautiful wildlife that live there? The wonders of nature should teach you why it is so important that you reduce the planned area to around half its size. Trees are vital for our survival as they produce life-giving oxygen as well as providing a home to the unique British wildlife.

Unless you at least reduce the planned area, you will never be forgiven by the environmentalists. There may be protests outside the Council houses, letters of hate and disgust, and maybe even economic boycotts of this county. I will not support the Council in any way until you reduce the plans and unless you do so, I for one will never forgive you".

This was how my letter to the Devon County Council read. Unless I get enough signatures here, beautiful innocent wild animals will die.

10. Say No to Overhead High Voltage Powerlines Now

Due to governmental red tape we have been informed that parliament wants petitions in their format on their website. It's not surprising that they make it difficult to be heard. So if you want your voice to count please sign both these petitions. The one on this page and the one at this link:

We strongly recommend you click here and add your name to the second petition which is presented to parliament.

Energex plans to destroy a huge amount of our precious and beautiful Sunshine Coast cutting a 40 metre wide channel 22 kilometres long which courses through trees, bordering and crossing Eudlo Creek in many places, spelling the end to much flora and fauna and destroying a lot of public and private land in the process.

The proposed high voltage powerline will pass alongside a major school, through a number of environment reserves, over the picturesque Maroochy River as well as passing over major sporting venues where people of all ages, including kids, play sport.

The following points will help you understand why demanding the energy corridor be placed UNDERGROUND is the only sustainable option with best results for the whole community, preserving our much loved wildlife and beautiful scenery for all time. The underground solution represents good economic practice making long term savings for ENERGEX and therefore the end user.

Most people believe that overhead powerlines pose a significant danger to the health of people living under, near or those who work, play sport etc, or pass under or near these lines.

Even if you think there's no problem with high emissions, Corona Ions (which are shed into the atmosphere from the wires themselves), or high milligauss levels (magnetic field levels) then there are still MANY other reasons why supporting this petition is very important.

1 The erection of these massive ugly pylons will be a PERMANENT BLIGHT on our beautiful landscape for ALL FUTURE generations.

2 The path ENERGEX has chosen is largely following Eudlo Creek which will have devastating effects on this fragile and necessary ecosystem.

3 ENERGEX has totally misrepresented their intentions by stating that they would place all pylons in a manner that would preserve the environment and not affect species of vulnerable or threatened flora and fauna. This is NOT the case at all.

ENERGEX plans to annihilate much of the precious and fragile ecosystems along Eudlo Creek, interfere with a gazetted Koala Corridor, destroy thousands of trees that are generations old (taking with it vulnerable habitats of threatened birds, frogs, marsupials, monotremes – even endangered species – and so on).

4 Overhead powerlines involve carving a path through the landscape 40 metres wide in as straight a path as possible. Cabling underground only requires a ‘corridor’ or 10 metres wide. That is a huge difference. Plus you will never see the powerlines after they are buried.

5 Overhead powerlines are made of aluminium. Underground cabling is made of copper. Copper is a better conductor of electricity. This means that less natural resources are needed to produce the power. There is more efficiency and that results in delivering more power.

In fact using underground cabling means 30% better power efficiency. There’s more bang for our power bucks! It also means we burn LESS COAL. Underground power cabling is a truly sustainable option. It requires FAR less maintenance and is replaced approx every 40 years. Overhead wires are replaced every 15. I hope you’re getting the picture! It’s a real way to REDUCE OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT.

6 Overhead powerlines represent a waste of our money in the long term, present a risk to health, a risk to the lives of a HUGE proportion of our environment.

YOU have the power to stop this insulting and ridiculous program from going ahead. Please sign the petition. And PLEASE send every Australian you know this petition. Creating another precedent will mean that we will be able to protect all communities from the threat of overhead powerlines in ALL communities in Australia. This is much more than a local issue. It concerns us all. Hurry. We only have til June 14 to get to as many people as possible.

Thank you! Your support is greatly appreciated.

11. Save the Alum Sacred Mountain

Project Description

This project will provide a full bypass of Bulahdelah [note: not a bypass at all, let alone a ‘full’ bypass] including a new crossing over the Myall River [in the floodplain downstream of the confluence of the Myall and Crawford Rivers – where a fill area has been continuously sinking for well over 12 months].

The proposed Bulahdelah Bypass [not a bypass] project comprises a new 8.5km four-lane divided highway bypass [not a bypass] … [more propaganda] from about 1.5km south of Booral Road [note: the 1.5 stretch of new highway south of Booral Road – **and its cost** – could be equally utilised for Option A – i.e. 1.5 km of Option A has already been partially constructed].

Planning approval for the project [planning approval was actually of RTA propaganda] was obtained on 9 July 2007. The scope of the project includes:

• M-class (motorway) standard, 110 km/h speed limit [note: not motorway standard and not 110 km per hour speed limit. 100 km per hour speed limit at hill crest, an approximately 25 to 30 km per hour slowing of northbound laden trucks over a distance of 900 metres, an approximately 20 km per hour slowing of southbound laden trucks over a distance of 1 kilometre, no climbing lane for northbound laden trucks, no climbing lane for southbound laden trucks, insufficiently wide median strip fails to cater for future climbing lanes together with the two future lanes necessitated by increases in traffic volume] with grade-seperated [sic] interchanges;

The Alum Mountain at Bulahdelah, the 180 metres and above portion of which is Commonwealth listed, is famous as being the only known above ground deposit of alunite in mountain form in the Southern Hemisphere. That, together with its wealth and quantity of rare flora and fauna and unique Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal heritage, makes it the only mountain of this type in existence.

The Option E ‘footprint’ destroys:-

A complex of highly significant Aboriginal Sacred Sites including (but not limited to) those documented in the Aboriginal Place Nomination Assessment by Umwelt Environmental Consultants – a report prepared for the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, June, 2003.

‘The Bulahdelah mine site complex is assessed as having high local and state significance. Some historical aspects of the mine have national significance.’ This wording is taken directly from page 2 of the RTA document: The Bulahdelah (Alum Mountain) Alunite Mine Site-Complex – A Cultural Heritage Assessment with Reference to the Proposed Bulahdelah Pacific Highway Upgrade Route Option E – June 2001 – Navin Officer heritage consultants Pty. Ltd..

The majority of the habitat of: Rhizanthella slateri (an extremely rare Australian native orchid which flowers beneath the surface of the soil and is of international significance); Cryptostylis hunteriana; and a rare Corybas (now misnamed dowlingii), all of which species have high protection listings.2 (Figure S7 – Page S.18 – Bulahdelah Upgrading the Pacific Highway Environmental Impact Statement – Summary – November 2004.)

Colonies and individuals of more common Australian native orchid species from an eco-tourism and heritage site which currently contains equivalent to approximately 1/10th of the Australia-wide native orchid species quantity. This includes more than 30 species which were used by Aboriginal people as food.

Dangerous (geotechnically):

The RTA was aware during the route selection stage that there is an existent landslide in the path of Option E. (On page no. 2 – 14 of the Bulahdelah Upgrading the Pacific Highway Environmental Impact Statement – Volume 6 technical paper 11 the RTA stated: ‘The Colluvial area [i.e. the site of an already occurred landslide] was more extensive than estimated during the route selection stage.’)

There is no mention of said landslide in either the focus group notes or the report on the Value Management Workshop, which was held on 29th & 30th August, 2000, and was the final phase of the route selection process.

The proposed highway upgrade route would be constructed up to 13 metres deep through the existing landslide and beneath overhanging cliffs so dangerous that, as has been documented by the recent Minister for Roads, they are affected by rainwater. (Copy of letter attached.3)

Two schools and a residential area are located beneath these cliffs and just below the existent landslide, which has been estimated by the RTA as being up to 25 metres deep.

In EIS Volume 6 Technical Paper 11 the following hazards have been listed:-

Please note: Three ‘cuts’ (numbered 2, 3, and 4 – all areas of major blasting) are located across the lower mid-slope of the Alum Mountain and are above schools and a residential area. ‘Colluvium’ is the word used by the RTA for the soils, boulders etc. of the landslide which is in the path of Option E. (Copy attached4 of Figure 4.1-Vol.6-Technical Paper 11.)

In areas of the identified colluvium where the depth to rock extended to 25 metres, the colluvium comprises a variety of materials including cobbles and boulders (up to 5 metres maximum size) in a silty clay-sand-gravel matrix considered to be the remnants of an ancient landslide.
Blasting is expected for 150,000 to 200,000 cubic metres of rock.
Hazard D: Large scale overall slope failure by sliding along the colluvial/bedrock or natural interface and daylighting near the toe of Cut 4.
Hazard E: Large scale overall slope failure encompassing the entire road.
‘Concept design drawings indicated … proposed cuts up to 25 metres in height and … colluvial slope over 400 metres length of the preferred route at the foot of Bulahdelah ([the] Alum) mountain’.

12. Stop the demolition of Souk El Bzourieh

The demolition of Souk El Bzourieh is like annihilating our identity and erasing our history.

Souk El Bzourieh is a historical monument, one of the most important souks of Old Damascus. If this one goes, it will beginning of the destruction of whole of Old Damascus. Soon enough there will be no Souk Hamidieh, no Citadelle and God knows what will happen with Omayyad Mosque.

They already started with Bab Charqi, Madhat Bacha, Al Manakhlieh and many others...

Selling the land of El Bzourieh to build some touristic project would not make the place more famous neither more beautiful. Tourists wouldn't care much to see a big mall instead of the charming little shops of El Bzourieh. This is absurd. We cannot let this happen.

What will become of Damascus if these destructive actions continue. What will happen if we turn our backs and let them flatten our Old Town.

It is there where our identity lies. If the Old city goes, nothing of our true history will last. How can we explain to next generations that once instead of tall buildings and shopping malls we had little souks and small shops which people from around the globe came to see.

We need to stop them in every mean and every way. Not stand still and watch our heritage go down.

We need to awaken people's awareness of the importance of such a place. We need to let our voice rise to reach concerned persons to reconsider the destruction order.

We simply cannot let this happen. It will be like letting go of the last straw that we are hanging on to which is our true identity.

13. End the war in Iraq

Following the 1991 Gulf War, the United Nations mandated that Iraqi chemical, biological, nuclear, and long range missile programs be verifiably halted and all such weapons verifiable destroy. U.N weapons inspector inside Iraq were able to verify the destruction of a large amount of WMD-material, but substantial issues remained unresolved after they left Iraq in 1998 due to the lack of cooperation by the Iraqi government.

After 9/11 attacks, the president of the United States George W. Bush claimed that Saddam Hussein supported for international terrorist groups of treat to the West. He demanded a complete end to alleged Iraqi production and use of weapons of mass destruction and that Iraq comply with UN Resolutions requiring UN inspectors unfettered access to areas those inspectors thought might have weapons production facilities. During this time, before 2003 invasion of Iraq, Bush repeatedly backed demands for unfettered inspection and disarmament with treats of invasion.

Even though the government of Iraq agreed to new inspections in late 2002 and inspectors did not find any WMD stockpiles, the United States, United Kingdom, and Spain proposed another resolution on Iraq, witch they called the “ eighteenth resolution” to give Iraq a deadline to comply with previous resolution before a possible military intervention. This proposed resolution was subsequently withdrawn because not enough countries would have supported it. In particular, NATO members France and Germany, together with Russia, were opposed to a military intervention in Iraq, on the ground that it would be very risky, in terms of security, for the international community, and defended a diplomatic process of disarmament.

However, the White House had never stopped its plan which invading Iraq to achieve their “purpose”. In March 2003 the U.S. government announced that “diplomacy has failed” and that it would proceed with a coalition of allied countries, named “coalition of the willing”, to rid Iraq of its alleged weapons of mass destruction witch meant the war in Iraq was on hand.

14. Destruction orders for vicious dogs

My son who is 7yrs old was attacked by his uncle's American bulldog over at his uncle's house - at the time the owners partner was there thankfully to help my son and remove the dog outside, however she's adament the dog was totally unprovoked and attacked him for no reason.

As a result of this my son had to go down to theatre to be stitched up as the wounds we're so deep, he had 20 nylon stitches in the back of his head.

Because the attack took place where the dog resides the officer dealing with it wasn't sure anything could be done to the dog.

The owner still has the dog, which we feel is absolutely disgusting - where are his morals!

It should of been destroyed in an instant, we are lucky my son is here today as had it been his throat he may not of been.

We feel the dog should be destroyed before its given the chance to attack someone else please help us to hopefully have a new law brought forward so if a dog attacks a child regardless of where it happens its a dangerous dog and it should be destroyed.

15. Stop The destruction of Lymington

June 20, 2006

In common with towns across the UK the Town of Lymington is suffering from a rash of overdevelopment.

In the name of supposedly "Saving the Green Belt" developers are being encouraged by the UK Government to build at ever higher densities in the centre of towns.

This process has now gathered enormous momentum and the town now has numerous building sites as developers knock down good family houses to build block of retirement flats and second homes.

Unless the local council the New Forest District Council starts standing up to the developers and starts saying NO then the town as we know it will be lost for ever.

17. Stop Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction

Petition to UN to ensure that Iraq disarms and that they fulfill their responsibility to stop the spread of weapons of mass destruction.

18. Support for President Bush and Prime Minister Blair

We the undersigned believe:
Iraq is indeed a threat to not only its own people but to the entire world.
Even if the UN inspectors are able to find nothing, after they have left, Iraq will be free to do as they please. Thus the threat will continue into the future. Saddam and his thugs must be removed from power in Iraq, by force if need be. Thus freeing the good people of Iraq of ruthless tyranny. All weapons of mass destruction must be removed from Iraq.

History must not be allowed to repeat itself. War is a grave thing, yet the only thing that some mad men understand. Diplomacy will not work with the unwilling. Nothing that Sadam or his representatives say can be believed.

The League of Nations did not work for the same reasons that the UN is not working now. The time for diplomacy is long past. We must not wait until thousands are killed before we take action.

We the undersigned further support the United States, President Bush,Great Britain, and Prime Minister Blair.
All of the leaders of the free world should unite behind Mr. Bush and Mr. Blair to end this scourge. Now, before it is too late.

19. Get rid of the No Bikes Allowed laws in public skate parks in the USA!

Many skate parks are being made in the United States, and many of them ban bikes. Many people state that bikes cause destruction to the parks. They cause no more destruction than the skateboards do. Please, help put an end to these stupid laws.

20. Save the Barren and Green Rivers

The Mammoth Cave Region and Barren River are being impacted by intrusive industry. This area is relatively unpolluted and the law enforcement against pollution lax. There are some people who are taking advantage of the local people by moving into the Warren County to spread destruction and pollution.

The Warren County Judge Executive Buchannon and Mayor Sandy Jones are responsible for the development and destruction of the karst region. The Judge and Mayor are backing development plans that are inconsiderate of the fragile ecology of the region. The Mayor is supporting an "enterprise zone" to develop a tourist attraction in the Barren River wetlands. The Judge Executive is trying to build an "Industrial Park" (Transmodal Park) and airport in the Mammoth Cave area.
