1. HHS Library Seating

In the Hudson High School library, students aren't allowed to have more than 4 people at a table. Myself, as well as many others, believe this rule is unnecessary and unfair, as we as students should be allowed to sit wherever we want and with whoever we want. I understand that teachers don't want 15-20 people crowded around one small, circular table, but these tables can comfortably fit 8 people. Teachers must understand that as a student, we want to sit with our friends, and help each other out with schoolwork, homework, projects, and other such assignments. If students are being loud or disrespectful, then the teacher or librarian can break them up or punish them accordingly, but don't let these ignorant people ruin it for the rest of us. I hope that by creating this petition, people in Hudson High School (and possibly even other schools) will sign it and give us the freedom to sit wherever we want in the school library.

2. Allow Sophie's Cafe to have a Patio with Street Furniture

Sophie's cafe wants to have some street patio seating for her customers, as well as for others in the community.

This corner of Logan avenue and Queen Street East, the south-east corner, is an eyesore, and sophie and her husband and the owner of the building wish to make some street sidewalk improvements, that include some planters, café seating and other street furniture that will help to beautify the neighbourhood.

This would allow the patrons of Sophie’s Café and others to sit and enjoy their coffee or desserts, and be part of a vibrant street life which is just what many businesses and residents have been doing to bring a fresh new vitality to the east part of queen street from broadwview to coxwell. This little part of our town called Leslieville.

Sophie applied to the City of Toronto Municipal Licensing and Standards department requesting an application for sidewalk/boulevard café (Application – file #B066635), asking for these privileges along with some concept ideas for improvement of this corner. A decision on April 21, 2010 was rendered denying their application. (See attached refusal letter from Bruce Robertson’s office).

We the undersigned believe that these improvements would be a significant improvement to this corner of logan and queen. We believe that the addition of street furniture and café seating/tables will add to Sophie’s Café a place for people to site and enjoy their coffee and desserts and not adversely impact the adjoining residential buildings, as there will be no smoking or alcohol beverages, and we support reversing the City’ decision.

3. Allow American Flatbread Patio/Outdoor Seating

The original Retail and Attraction Plan for the Zoso mixed use project called for, "support amenities, shopping opportunities and personal services to Zoso residents and to their Clarendon neighbors."

Specifically, the plan stated that the American Flatbread space would offer,"café style outdoor seating."

4. To offer standing space on Coldplay's 2008 UK tour

In December 2008, Coldplay will be playing numerous gigs around the United Kingdom to promote their new album, Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends.

Tickets went on sale on 30th May 2008 and were largely sold out within 12 hours. Fans were dismayed to discover that standing was not permitted in any of the venues the band would be playing.

This petition calls for the allowance of standing room in order to achieve the desired gig atmosphere, which seating would prohibit.

5. Westfield Malls - Please Support Breastfeeding Babies!

July 26, 2006

Fox 8 Morning News (Cleveland) aired a story on July 21, 2006 in which a local nursing mother (who wishes to remain anonymous) was refused permission to nurse her baby before paying for her purchases at the Aeropostale store in Great Northern Mall (which is owned by Westfield).

The mall representative who spoke to the reporter indicated that this kind of situation is why they put in the Family Room.

Westfield Corp. owns four area malls in addition to the malls they own in twelve other states and three other countries (the UK, Australia and New Zealand).

Some of those areas have much stronger protections for families who breastfeed in public than Ohio does, especially New York State (where Westfield owns two malls) - there the right to breastfeed is written into the Civil Rights section of the state laws, with specific penalties if violated.

6. Remove Seating Facilities for Concerts at S’pore Indoor Stadium

February 7, 2006

This is a Petition to request for action on the removal of seating facilities for Rock & Pop concerts (S'pore Indoor Stadium).

I attended my very first rock concert in my teenage years. In my opinion, it was one of the best concerts that ever took place in S'pore. The energy exuded by the 1000+ fans were truly an amazing sight. It was a METALLICA Concert & at that time, they were one of the hottest Metal Bands around (& they still are!!).

Although I absolutely enjoyed the unforgettable event... but what disappointed me utterly was the inclusion of seating facilities. I was extremely surprised (or rather, Shocked!) that there actually were seats for a Rock concert. What a Travesty it was.

The seats were absolutely redundant & a major obstacle for the fans to have a great time. For Goodness sake... this is a ROCK Concert. Nobody will ever seat down during a Rock Concert.
I really do not comprehend the reason for placing seats in the main arena. I did not pay $150 to seat down at concert events. Apparently, everybody were not utilising the seats at all.
The fans were either standing or using the seats as standing-stools (including myself & my friends).

In 2001, I attended the COLDPLAY/TRAVIS Concert. The concert was excellent, but the seats (again!) were a major disappointment. Then there were also ushers demanding fans to take their seats. This is unacceptable as those at the rear will not be able to see their favourite band perform because the fans in the front were standing up & obstructing the view.

Hence, those fans behind have to stand on the seats to enjoy the concert & get their money's worth. The concert tickets cost over a $100 each & i bought 4 tickets for my friends so we would have a enjoyable night.
However, we were deprived of having good clean fun.

I understand the need to have seating facilities for shows/films, theatrical performances & plays as i do attend these events as well. (eg. Cirque du Soleil, Cabarets, etc )
Nowadays whenever there are any concerts (like the upcoming Franz Ferdinand & OASIS concert), i would think twice about spending money to attend the event where i have to mandatorily take a seat to enjoy the concert.

I'm very sure many others out there would share my exact sentiments.
Thus, I write this petition to appeal to the authorities & organisers to remove the seating facilities for all Rock/Pop Concerts in the future.
I always believe this action will undoubtedly please all fans & concert go-ers.

Furthermore, more eager fans would not hesitate to buy tickets to see their favourite artistes/bands perform.
This will definitely be a win-win situation.

The cost of setup would be lower as there will be significantly less maintenance of the seats & manpower to arrange the seats prior to the event.
Please do your part & sign the petition to put a halt to all these unreasonable decisions to place seats in the arena.

Kindly send this petition to all your friends & relatives who believe in this cause as well.

On completion of the signature inputs, this petition will be sent to all relevent authorities pertaining to concert events organisation. (Ministry of Information & The Arts, SISTIC, etc). Thank you very much for your kind & generous support.

Yours Sincerely,
Kenneth Fan Kei Lim

7. Preserving our Quality of Life

Verde Valley Christian Church plans to develop a worship center in a quiet neighborhood where neither the roadways nor the area are appropriate for such heavy usage.

Their current plans call for a "Multi-purpose facility" seating 500, a lighted parking lot for 375 cars, a lighted ball field and proposed second worship building for an additional 1000 attendants.

8. Stop Lunch Seating Arrangment at Jefferson Middle School

School Lunch is a time of socializing and relaxing with your friends. It's the only time during school when you can be with friends, that you do not see in your classes. Now we have assigned seating that only allows us to hang out or talk with only a certain group of eleven people. If you gain or lose a few friends you automatically can not sit with the people that you want to.
