Petition to encourage the Michigan Humane Society to stop its policy to euthanize all surrendered or seized pit bulls because of their breed.

It has come to the attention of many throughout the US through Animal Planet's "Animal Cops: Detroit" series that the Michigan Humane Society has a policy that requires the euthanization of all seized or surrendered pit bulls. This is troubling to us.

Many pit bulls featured on "Animal Cops: Detroit", even coming from a fighting background, appear to be human-friendly. We would respectfully ask that instead of putting down these dogs by default, that you would give them the temperament testing that the other dogs go through to see if they can be put up for adoption.

We're concerned that the practice of euthanizing these dogs by default does not do anything to discourage the bad reputation this breed has endured.

We understand that there are APBT's, just like any other breed, who unfortunately are of unsound temperament and must be put down. But not all pit bulls are like that.
So, we just ask that you punish the deed, not the breed.

Sincerely,
The Undersigned
