We are serious about Our Right to Feel Safe in Queensland and we are calling on you to take action.

We feel less safe because criminal behaviour is not sufficiently punished in Queensland.

We are serious about Our Right to Feel Safe in Queensland and we are calling on you to take action.

We feel less safe because criminal behaviour is not sufficiently punished in Queensland.

We think it is wrong that a man who drives a speeding car into a group of children on the footpath gets a $600 fine.

We think it is wrong that a drink driver on his 19th conviction gets a few weeks in gaol.

We think it is wrong that the gang-leader who viciously bashes a policeman unconscious and leaves him in a pool of blood gets no gaol time, even after she breaches the probation the courts generously hand out to her.

We believe that the Queensland parliament and judiciary don’t punish criminals enough to deter them from crime.

We see no reason that gaol sentences are suspended.

We think it’s wrong that the parliament has directed our judges and magistrates that gaol should be a last resort;

"The Penalties and Sentences Act 1992 (Qld) sets out the only purposes for which sentences may be imposed on an offender. Subsection 9(2)(a) mandates that a sentence of imprisonment should be imposed as a last resort."

Politicians have made this law. We think it’s wrong. We think criminals have too many rights.

We demand that you give more weight to Our Right to Feel Safe. We will present our views at 4BC’s Our Right to Feel Safe forum and we request you attend and listen to us.
