Research done by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention showed that dogs that were tethered for long periods of time were 2.8 times more likely to attack a human than dogs who were not tethered.

Alexandria City Council just passed an ordinance that prohibited dogs from being tethered for more than three hours in a 24 hour time period. This petition is asking for other city councils across the US to pass similar ordinances. Some pet owners leave their dogs tied up for days, weeks, and even months at a time.

Since research has shown that tethered dogs are a bigger threat to humans since they are more aggressive, city council's should pass an anti-tethering ordinance, to save many dogs from suffering at the end of a short chain and to protect humans from being attacked by aggressive dogs that have been tethered.

We the undersigned are asking City Council members to pass an ordinance to prohibit dogs from being tethered for long periods of time.

Since research has shown tethered dogs are 2.8 times more likely to attack a human, City Council members should pass this ordinance to protect their citizens and also spare dogs from suffering a life of confinement at the end of a short chain.

Thank you for your time in this matter.

Sincerely,
