Pavilion Park will soon undergo major renovations. Plans call for a raised platform lawn, the removal of the park gates and (most unfortunately) removal of the dog run.

Because Pavilion Park has a long happy tradition of welcoming ALL community members including the furry ones that bark, it is our intent that this petition make clear that once Pavilion Park is renovated, the community intends to continue to welcome all members of the community there including well behaved, on-leash dogs.

Because dog owners are community members who also enjoy sitting in tranquil parks, it is important that our UES community continue to provide some dog-friendly public parks. None of the other 8 parks surrounding Pavilion Park are dog friendly -- including 5 Sutton Place Parks, the Queensboro Oval Park, 24 Sycamores and St. Catherine’s Parks. '

Athough the near by East River esplanade is dog-friendly, it is not a genuine park. It is an urban waterfront Greenway -- a pedestrian and bicycle shared use path -- and not a tranquil park setting.

It is very important that Pavilion Park remain dog-friendly to ensure that all human members of the community -- those with and those without dogs continue to have tranquil park settings within which they can spend time with family and friends or even just with a furry friend of two.

We, the undersigned, call on Community Board 8, to recognize and represent the community's desire that Pavilion Park remain a dog-friendly park.
