As University of Nottingham students we wish to show our support to striking UCU lecturers and staff, who are defending their right to a guaranteed pension.

The proposal by UUK (Universities UK) to change the USS pension scheme will be damaging to lecturers financially, taking £10,000 a year from pension pots, and will also mean uncertainty and low morale for our staff. Students should direct their anger at those seeking to take £10,000 a year from pension pots, rather than the people who are standing up to protect their right to secure income in retirement.

As UoN students we want to demonstrate our support for lecturers to the Vice-Chancellor, and encourage her to support engagement with the UCU and avoid industrial action. We remain hopeful that this dispute can be resolved without industrial action, however lecturers and staff have our full support if and when strike action is taken.

When signing this petition ensure you use your university email address, or else your support will not be included.

We, the undersigned students at the University of Nottingham, fully support staff and lecturers and call on the Vice-Chancellor to support engagement with UCU over pensions.
