Tower Hamlets Planning Committee was initiated by Tower Hamlets trade unionists, local Hands Off Our Public Services (HOOPS) group and local activists to help build the TUC demonstration in London on 20 October.
We seek to involve as many local people as possible in the fight against a Government that wants ordinary people to pay for the crisis.
We have organised a Rally on Thursday 11th October from 6.30pm at the London Muslim Centre, Whitechapel Road E1 1JQ with speakers from Child Poverty Action Group, Disabled People Against Cuts and Tower Hamlets Mayor.
As Trade Unionists, community organisers, students and representatives of young people, local politicians and simply citizens of Tower Hamlets, we urge you to join us in supporting the TUC's March For A Future That Works on Saturday 20 October 2012.
Communities like ours are suffering the brunt of this government's austerity measures that just aren't working.
Our young people face the prospect of no work and the loss of educational opportunity. Our elderly fear the cost of care, the falling value of pensions and the future of the NHS. Those in work face cuts in real pay and threats to jobs and pensions. Those out of work face cuts to benefits and increasingly a future without hope.
Every aspect of life for our community is affected from health to education and housing to welfare. Meanwhile those responsible for the economic crisis continue to enjoy obscene bonuses even as ever greater irresponsibility and corruption on their part is exposed.
