The application site comprises an undeveloped green field which extends to approximately 2ha in a rectangular shape. It is located to the east of A429 to the south eastern edge of Malmesbury and to the north of existing properties that front onto the B4042, with direct site access off the A429.

The proposed development will involve the erection of a new Lidl food store with associated car parking, servicing, and landscaping to all edges of the site.

The new food store will extend to 1,794 sq. m gross internal area with net sales of 1,104 sq. m.

The store will be supported by 119car parking spaces, including 7 dedicated disabled spaces, 8 parent and child spaces and electric vehicle charging points. Secure cycle storage will also be provided.

A new vehicular access off the A429 will be delivered to accommodate all traffic to and from the site, including deliveries.

A new cycle and pedestrian access facility will be provided as part of the development to ensure safe, sustainable access for all.

It is proposed that the food store will be open between the hours of:
• 8am to 10pm Monday to Saturday (including Bank Holidays), and
• 10am to 4pm or 11am to 5pm Sunday

Benefits of the proposed development:

The development of the site will provide the following benefits to Malmesbury:
• A purpose built store which provides a clean and fresh shopping experience to meet the needs of customers;
• A dedicated in-store bakery;
• Improved shopping choice and provision of a new mainstream discount operator for Malmesbury and the surrounding area;
• A bespoke and sympathetic building that has been specifically designed to assimilate into the surrounding area;
• Landscaping will improve the visual amenity of the site including extensive soft landscaping around the boundary of the site and mitigation measures to ensure the development sits sympathetically into its surroundings;
• Employment opportunities, including up to 40 new retail jobs for local residents;
• The opportunity to claw back trade which is currently being lost to other supermarkets outside of Malmesbury, which will in turn bolster the local economy.

We, the undersigned, fully support Lidl's proposed application for a new food store in Malmesbury.
