- Catholic Church
Millionaires, billionaires, and massive corporations have made donations to assist the Catholic Church in the restoration of the Notre Dame cathedral that was saddeningly destroyed by a fire. The amount donated has skyrocketed to an amount over $1,000,000,000 ( 1 billion dollars) in the short time span of just a few days. In my mind, that is ABSURD considering the Catholic Church is worth upwards of $30,000,000,000 (30 billion dollars), and is a tax exempt corporation. So I'm asking myself, "Why are donations in this grand scale being made for a monument that can be funded by the owners, without financially debilitating them at all? The world has many more pressing matters to tend to. For example, the water in Flint, Michigan is still not safe to drink after being aware of this issue for years. Our rate of homelessness, and poverty has gone through the roof. In a matter of days, the world has come together to restore a religious monument to it's former glory, why have we not placed the importance of our fellow man above that of a religious building? It's contradictory to the teachings of the Catholic Church, and it's contradictory to basic human decency. I am suggesting that the funds that have been raised for the restoration of Notre Dame be distributed to causes that will help our society in a positive manner, and let the very wealthy, and capable Catholic Church/Corporation restore it's own cathedral.
We, the undersigned, call on the Catholic Church to not accept donations for the reconstruction of the Notre Dame cathedral, as they are financially capable of funding the restoration themselves. The donated funds may be appropriated to other causes that are more important, and pressing around the world.
