Supporting Steve Warburton's motion to redirect all junior high students from Bedford Junior High and Bedford South to the current CPA building when the new high school opens, will:

• Address serious Bedford community education problems: Overcrowding at Bedford South School, future overcrowding at Basinview, and the unacceptable, neglected BJH facility issue. As a result, our entire community benefits.

• Address the issues realistically while maximizing the use of our resources. Given the fiscal restraint imposed by the Department of Education on the HRSB, this position reduces facility costs by closing the BJH facility and relieving the overcrowding faced by BSS (allowing for removal of the portables).

• Combine junior high students from both schools into one building. This expands program capabilities and effective delivery, all while not duplicating programs. We expand the potential for junior high extra curricular activities and ease transition to the much larger high school.

• Provide ample space that can be used to allow for positive educational/community initiatives to enhance the junior high learning program for all our students.

• Bring our students together. Many already know each other from community-‐based activities. Student’s identity grows from the neighbourhood, to the community at large.

We, the undersigned, call on the Halifax Regional School Board to approve Steve Warburton's motion that the students in grades 7-9 attending Bedford South School and Bedford Junior High be redirected to the current Charles P. Allen building when the new high school now under construction is completed.
