Northern Beaches Leisure Centre was established in 2009. It is located in one of the fastest growing suburbs in North Queensland. But it is the only Townsville City Council owned swimming facility that is not fully heated. NBLC has patronage from a large and diverse demographic, including but not limited to Learn to Swim, Swimming Club, Triathlon, Aqua Aerobics, School Sport, Strand Fitness, swimmers young & old.
When the winter months arrive, the NBLC facilities cannot be fully utilised, so patronage drops dramatically. This impacts on all user groups, particularly those that are using swimming as a means of training to compete at Regional, State, National and International level. Even compared to other Townsville City Council owned swimming facilities, this puts these user groups at a disadvantage.
We, the undersigned request that Townsville City Council give consideration to the supply and installation of heating infrastructure at Northern Beaches Leisure Centre before the first day of winter - 1 June 2020.
