Earbuds For Learning

For years our school, Seaman High School, has fostered a love of learning in that many of our students agree with. They have always provided us with ways to explore knowledge and allowing it blossom into something further, something beautiful. Recently, our school administration has decided to stifle our creativity by enforcing this spiteful rule that earbuds are no longer allowed during our seminar time. This is not only forcing their rules upon us and destroying our rights of free thought, speech, and listening, but they are embracing an environment of conformity by making every student a slave to the same sounds as others. Earbuds not only allow us to learn better, as stated in Cheri Lucas' article on pbs.org, "Music has been found to stimulate parts of the brain, and studies have demonstrated that music enhances the memory of Alzheimer’s and dementia patients, including a study conducted at UC Irvine, which showed that scores on memory tests of Alzheimer’s patients improved when they listened to classical music." (Lucas, pbs.org) it also allows students to free themselves from the distracting sounds emanating throughout the classroom. Thereby, this petition has been created to allow students in the seminar classrooms access to earbuds, to further our learning and encourage our creativity.
