Political dynasties continue to dominate the country’s electoral system with almost 70% candidates coming from a political clan. According to the study by the Asian Institute of Management Policy Center (AIMPC), poverty is more prominent on areas under a political dynasty. The same study also shows that legislators belonging to a political dynasty are wealthier than those who are not.

This provision was ratified on Feb.2, 1897 but no law has been passed to implement it, mainly because the legislators themselves are members of a political clan.

According to the 1987 Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines, Article II, Declaration of Principles and State Policies, Section 26, The State shall guarantee equal access to opportunities for public service and prohibit political dynasties as may be defined by law.

We, citizens of the Philippines, petition for the ratification of the Anti-Political Dynasty Bill through our initiative, provided in RA 6735 or The Initiative or Referendum Act. We should all initiate the enactment of this law, because we believe that voting wisely isn’t enough. We should never vote for the same names, in fact, same names should NOT be allowed at all.
