JROTC is a program dedicated to the idea of improving the characteristics and traits of highschoolers. The program has multiple courses that teach self discipline and leadership all while preparing them for the rest of their life. It is for anyone in highschool, and can give you gym credits. This program also can allow college scholarships to those who choose to pursue ROTC in college.
We, the undersigned, support the addition of a JROTC program to Souhegan High School. The JROTC program is a class for all students that teaches them general military skills and life skills. Students should have the option to choose a path for themselves or have the option to learn skills to prepare for their lives.
The JROTC is a military program but it is not designed to enlist adolescence into the military. The real mission behind the JROTC is to give the cadets a taste of the military experience and to provide them with life skills. The mission statement straight from the JROTC website is “ To motivate young people to be better citizens.” Many parents believe this teaches their children discipline by being strict but also teaching effectively.
The addition of a JROTC program in our school will help in giving students another option and can prepare them for life beyond high school. Students that are considering the military after high school can use this course to make their decision. Even students not considering the military can participate and learn valuable life skills.
