We, the undersigned are Kenyan citizens from across the country and people of good will who have been affected by cancer either directly or indirectly brought together under Limau Cancer Connection.
Limau Cancer Connection is a registered benevolent Charity organization based in Kenya with the main purpose of sensitizing Kenyans on cancer awareness, Cancer Screening and connecting Cancer victims with support groups for the psycho social help. We currently have a network of over 5000 cancer survivors all over the country.
We wish to draw your attention to the following; THAT;-
Lack/non implementation of policies and laws to cushion Kenyans from the catastrophic financial costs of cancer treatment, low funding towards cancer prevention and treatment as well as the lack of adequate cancer diagnosis and treatment facilities in our country.
According to the Steps Non Communicable Disease report by Ministry of Health, Existing evidence shows that the annual incidence of cancer is close to 37,000 new cases with an annual mortality of over 28,000 making cancer the third leading cause of death after infectious diseases and cardiovascular conditions.
We also take note that there were recommendations given in the same NCD report that haven’t been implemented to date
Many Kenyans have succumbed to cancer due to lack of access to essential cancer medication and diagnostic equipment.
THAT;-
This matter is not before any court of law or any other constitutional body.
Yours petitioners will ever Pray, THAT;
The Finance and Health committees look into urgent amendments to the existing laws to make cancer care affordable and accessible by;
Zero rating drugs for cancer treatment as listed on the World Health Organization essential cancer drugs list.
Zero rating equipment and related supplies for cancer treatment including machines like CT Scan,MRI, Infusion controls etc
Providing the ministry of health with a budget to construct a Cancer and Non Communicable Diseases referral and teaching Hospital.
