The petition succeeded as far as bringing the matter to the attention of the headteacher, however, it is unlikely that it will make any difference, and I got into trouble.
The Year 11 Students of Royds School have worked extremely hard all year, and were promised, in writing, that study leave would begin on the 12th of May, however, it has now been moved to the 19th May 2005. This is not beneficial to the students because they will be forced to attend lessons for which there will be no academic advantages. Instead they could be at home studying.
Yes, it is understandable that there will be concern as to how much studying will take place, however, at 16 years old we should be mature enough to take responsibility for our own actions. We are all approaching adulthood, and many of us will be entering full time employment during the coming summer, surely, by allowing us to this liability we will learn to prioritise of our own accord.
The Year 11 Students of Royds School have worked continuously hard all year and deserve to commence study leave as originally promised.
