As reported in the Townsville Bulletin (http://www.townsvillebulletin.com.au/article/2010/08/10/161841_news.html), Townsville will celebrate a GLBT pride festival on September 17th-19th 2010.

Unfortunately, a group of people have taken it upon themselves to petition against this festival.

While it is unlikely the PCYC will withdraw their support, it is still important to show those against this event that their bigoted voice is the real minority.

NOTE: Please ensure you share the link to this petition with your friends so we can have as many signatures in support of this as possible.

We as citizens of Townsville believe the upcoming GLBT pride festival is an important event for all residents. We beleive the event will help lessen discrimination by bringing both gay and straight people together in celebration.

We support the right of Townsville's gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender population to stand up against discrimination and celebrate their sexuality.

Therefore, we urge the PCYC Welfare Association including its local branch in Aitkenvale, and the Council of Townsville, its leaders, and Mayor Cr Les Tyrell to not withdraw support for this festival due to the request of a bigoted minority, and to continue to support future events.

We believe an event like this will open minds and reduce discrimination.
