Thank you for your support. With over 1700 signatures, we certainly can not contest the importance of health care in Quebec. We also cannot deny the essential role of residents in our health care.
Your effort is tremendously appreciated. After 18 months, we finally achieved a settlement with the government.
Thank you !
Since March 31, 2010, the Fédération des médecins résidents du Québec has been trying to bring the government to recognize that the work conditions and remuneration of medical residents are suboptimal. During the same period, the ministry hasn’t hesitated a bit to sign agreements with medical specialists, family physicians, and other health professionals. But, for Quebec residents, nothing yet.
The government refuses to recognize the 37 % gap between Quebec residents’ remuneration and that of their colleagues in the rest of Canada.
The government refuses to compensate medical residents financially for the teaching activities they supervise, as it is the case for other health professionals.
The government refuses to increase medical residents’ call duty premium at its fair value.
The government refuses to pay overtime to medical residents.
This situation has become unacceptable for medical residents.
We, the undersigned,
Demand that medical residents be recognized at fair value for the health care they offer the population, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year ;
Demand that medical residents be paid for their teaching activities ;
Demand that the call duty premium for medical residents be increased ;
Demand that medical residents benefit from work and financial conditions that are competitive in comparison with those of their colleagues from the other Canadian provinces.
Québec’s 3,000 medical residents are a living force and an essential link for access to care within the health care network. Let’s provide them with conditions which measure up to their contribution, their competencies and their implication.
