Seattle Public Schools is developing a new student assignment plan.

The new assignment area boundaries will largely determine which school students attend.

To the Seattle School Board:

We ask that you include the area west of 15th Avenue NW and north of 85th St NW in the Ballard High School assignment area. This area is shown in red in the graphic above. If the entire area cannot be added, then as much of it as possible should be moved to the Ballard High School assignment area.

This change meets the following objectives set by the School Board in creating the assignment areas:

1. Proximity These students are significantly closer to Ballard High School than Ingraham High School.

2. Metro Transportation Routes These students are a short bus ride from Ballard. They are two or three bus rides and at least an hour away from Ingraham.

3. Demographics With the recent reduction in the size of the Ballard assignment area, there is room for some or all of these students at Ballard.

Making this change is in line with the School Board's policy on creating assignment areas. More importantly, it is right for our community and our students.
