On July 29, 2025, Youtube's blog posted they will implement "machine learning" or known as AI, to monitor accounts. These accounts will be monitored to see who is an adult or not. It is mainly based off what you consume on Youtube, and once your account is flagged you will have restrictions on using the site. These restrictions include: digital well-being tools, content safeguards which also include limiting views on repetitive content you watch.
To access Youtube fully, you will now need to submit a government ID or credit card. This is a privacy concern to many and do not want to submit their sensitive government IDs or credit cards to enjoy Youtube's platform. This sensitive information has no guarantee if it will be stored, sold, or deleted. This age verification is required to access any age-restricted content.
Youtube should not require anyone to submit their sensitive information to enjoy their platform. This ruins the platform for everyone who uses it, breaches user privacy, and is not a functional approach to preventing children seeing inappropriate content.
Youtube has their secondary platform, Youtube Kids, where it has full parental controls for parents or guardians to monitor what their child watches on Youtube Kids. Instead of implementing privacy breaching age verification, Youtube can alternatively: provide stronger parental controls, moderate Youtube Kids more efficiently, and provide parents more resources on how to monitor their children on Youtube Kids.
This petition is to stop Youtube from implementing a privacy breaching verification system on their platform. Your signature will be pushing Youtube to not have their users needing to submit governmental IDs to access their platform. This petition will directly be going to Youtube, and optimally the current CEO, Neal Mohan.
