On Monday, November 16 at 12:01 AM, the London Transit Strike commenced and plagues the residents of the City of London and students of the University of Western Ontario with a lack of transportation options.

We, the students of the University of Western Ontario, wish to express our misgivings about the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 741 strike that commenced on Monday, November 16 at 12:01 AM.

It is our belief that this strike represents a breach of trust that we placed in the services provided by the London Transit Commission (LTC) from the beginning to close of the academic year. Choices made regarding housing, community involvement, extra-curricular activities, and academic programs, along others, relied on the assumption of an active public transit system. The assumption of accessible public transit was facilitated by an implicit trust between Western Students, London Transit Commission, and City of London. The lack thereof represents more than an inconvenience to the students of UWO and should be understood as a serious safety concern, an amplification of economic inequality, and a burden on academic achievement, particularly with the advent of the winter months.

We, the undersigned, petition the London Transit Commission, Amalgamated Transit Union Local 741 and all additional stakeholders to recognize the serious impact this labour dispute is having upon the well-being of the student populations, and to promptly seek a resolution.
