According to the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) bullying is the most common form of violence in our society; between 15% and 30% of students are bullies or victims. NASP also stated between 1994 and 1999, there were 253 violent deaths in school, 51 casualties were the result of multiple death events; In school related deaths bullying is contributing factor.
Did you know that 25% of teachers see nothing wrong with bullying or putdowns and consequently intervene in only 4% of bullying incidents (NASP 2011).
This is why Florida needs a more comprehensive Anti-Bullying Law that seeks to provide a holistic approach to the root causes of bullying and educated faculty, staff, parents, and the community on what to look for and ways to combat it.
We, the undersigned, call on the Florida State Legislature and the governor to develop tougher Anti-Bullying legislation that seeks to train faculty and staff, parents, students and local communities on ways to end bullying in our communities.
