Taxes are being collected on the sale of the same item multiple times. Taxes have already been collected on goods that are offered up for consignment, resale and recycling and in the efforts of environmental responsibility and accountability.
To the Honourable the Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia, in Legislature Assembled:
I/we, the undersigned, request that consignment and second hand goods be exempt from Provincial Sales Tax as it has been previously collected on these items at the time of the original purchase. This would also include being exempt from the proposed Harmonized Sales Tax to be implemented July 2010.
The purchase of consignment and second hand items supports positive environmental accountability encouraging the recycle and resale of functional products.
Therefore,
Your petitioners respectfully request that the Honourable House cease the collection of Provincial Sales Tax and/or the Harmonized Sales Tax from the sale of resold, recycled, consignment and/or used goods.
