We want our politicians to start governing the country, not just focusing on winning their seat.
Regardless of your political view, you have the right to have your vote go towards the person you vote for and ONLY the person you vote for. We also want to see the leader of the country unable to be removed by their party, as they were effectively voted in by the people.
These 2 changes should achieve a parliament that represents the people who voted, not an outcome of behind the scenes horse trading.
And ideally it will see our future leaders being able to act with the conviction that saw them voted in, instead of compromising to protect their job due to internal party conflicts.
We want the process simplified:
Whoever has the most primary votes, wins the seat.
Whoever is voted in Prime Minister cannot be removed by their party (this does not remove any legal ability to remove a Prime Minister through constitutional means if required).
The people of Australia are sick and tired of political gaming.
We, the undersigned, call on the Australian Government to remove preference voting and stop the ability for a party to vote out their leader while they are a sitting Prime Minister.
