#City & Town Planning
Target:
Banyule and Darebin City Councils
Region:
Australia

The Darebin and Banyule City Council together with Northland Shopping Centre giant are planning to build new streets and housing development in the Darebin Creek Parklands in Preston and Heidelberg West.
These parklands are part of an important and continuously threatened green corridor.

Both suburbs involved are the poorest and most vulnerable within these Council's jurisdiction.
It would be easy for the Councils to abuse their power here and overrule local interest to benefit the Council's wallet.

Darebin council has done it before, building an industrial estate to the Preston side of the Creek without consultation with the local residents.
If these plans to develop this section of the parklands into a new estate are to go ahead it will set a precedent and we all now what that will lead to.

And another precious green corridor with all its passive and active benefits to the local residents, and to Melbourne City as a whole will disappear.
Do not undervalue your parklands. Protect them from the greed.

We, the undersigned, value our Parklands greatly and call on the Darebin and Banyule City Councils to not sell off and develop the Darebin Creek Parklands for the use of streets and housing.
