Speed calming in Hamble Le Rice

Coach Road is a residential "no through road" in Hamble Le Rice, Hampshire, with public access to two small car parking areas along Southampton water and an access point into Follands Aerostructures factory at the end of the road.

The road has many private and rented residential properties and is home to families with children, vulnerable persons, and pets.

Vehicles consistantly utilise Coach Road and Hamble Lane, and have been noted travelling at high speeds. There has been an element of anti social behaviour with modified vehicles over revving and using excessive speeds during the evenings. Police are informed on numerous occasions, but do not appear to manage the issue. Congestion also builds up when shift changes occur at Follands and vehicles are seen racing to get to the Coach Road junction to access the main Hamble Lane before traffic builds up.

Vehicles over-revving and racing can contribute to environmental issues by polluting the atmosphere with unnecessary exhaust fumes which can affect health and compound respiratory illnesses. Cars speeding increases the risk of impact injuries especially around the local primary school, and unessessary noise pollution for the local residents.
