Dounreay Site Restoration Ltd are going to demolish the iconic Dounreay sphere which was the containment vessel for the world's first fast breeder nuclear reactor to supply power to a national grid.
It's a site of significance in the progress of the human race. Far from being destroyed, it should be preserved as other historic and important buildings are preserved, and should be a world heritage site.
We, the undersigned, call on Dounreay Site Restoration Ltd and Historic Scotland to reconsider the eventual demolition of a building which they agree is '...recognised as a local landmark and a national symbol of atomic heritage.'
Demolition of such a site, of great significance in world history, should be ruled out, and other options considered.
