As a Singaporean, this does worry me a lot.

This is exactly why so many local born Singaporeans turned against our Government. Are they ensuring the locals are taken care of? I do not mean waiting money to drop from the sky or free incentives. We as local Singaporeans simply do not have a fair ground to compete with the foreigners.

This is my questions I have for the SG government and fellow Singaporeans. The purpose is not against our Malaysian friends. It is simply to highlight the flaw of our government.

1. Is it legal for foreigners to work here without a valid work permit? We have so many foreigners working or contracting jobs here without a valid permit. Look at Deliveroo and Macdonalds. They are just some examples of companies profiting without the consideration of providing jobs to Singaporeans.

2. Is it legal for a motor vehicle to be on the road without a valid insurance cover? Is there any checks done when these vehicles are crossing our Custom checkpoints? Are work permit holders allowed to use foreign vehicles in Singapore (other than for holiday)? If they are allowed to do so, there is no justice for our local riders. Our vehicles are definitely more expensive than our neighbours. In order to survive in Singapore, our local delivery or despatch riders have to incur high cost of maintaining of vehicles, high cost of housing and living cost. Is this not a loophole which our dear government should look into?

3. Economic issue. Are these people contributing to the Singapore? Yes to economy in the short run as more projects will be completed. However most of the SGD earned will be converted to other currencies instead of spending in Singapore. This is simply an outflow of SGD money to other countries and we are not helping ourselves.

4. Environment issue. While our vehicles have to go thru annual vehicle inspections, are these foreign subjected to the inspections of the same or higher standard? It is these mandatory inspections that help our country to enjoy good quality air.

I hope our government could look into this issue seriously. It is affecting the future of our Singaporeans.

We, the undersigned, call for our government to take a serious views in stopping work permit holders from using all foreign vehicles in Singapore. We also call for our government to impose harsh punishment for foreigners who are working or contracting jobs in Singapore without applying for relevant permits.
