The huge success of the Toronto production of "We Will Rock You" is, without question, the result of the incredibly strong and talented cast of performers.
Due to the very short period initially set for the run of the show, it was no surprise that Mirvish Productions (the production company founded by the late Ed Mirvish, now owned by his son David) did not want to fund or pursue the rights for any sort of cast recording for the show. However, the continued demand for tickets and positive reviews from patrons has already lead to several show extentions.
It has also become evident through online discussions over various websites, as well as the continued interest seen after all performances formerly at the Canon Theatre, and currently at the Panasonic Theatre, that there is an overwhelming public demand for a Canadian cast recording of "We Will Rock You".
The reasoning behind the petition is to see how many people are truly interested in a recording. With enough signatures, it's a possibility that the voice of the audience can persuade the Mirvish family to undertake this project.
We, the undersigned, would like the Mirvishs' to reconsider and put forth the effort to gain the rights to undertake a Canadian cast recording of "We Will Rock You" for public consumption, and to do so with members of the current and original cast in Toronto.
We ask that, if the production of CDs is not possible, that they consider offering "exclusive" tracks recorded during the live shows offered through the "We Will Rock You" Canadian website (www.wewillrockyou.ca) or through the "We Will Rock You Shop" website (www.wewillrockyoushop.com)
