On August 30,2009, Yusuf Shakir was arrested on charges of driving under the influence. Mr. Shakir's coaching privileges were also suspended indefinitely. If Mr. Shakir is convicted, then he will have to serve the penalties mandated by Florida law. Regardless of these circumstances, denying Mr. Shakir the opportunity to continue the positive transition seen in the LHS football team would count as the greatest loss for LHS.
Mr. Shakir has expressed remorse for his actions, and his greatest concern is for the well being of the children. It would greatly benefit LHS, and subsequently, the community, if Mr. Shakir was given the opportunity to continue his coaching services.
We, the undersigned, pledge our support for the reinstatement of Yusuf Shakir as head football coach of Lincoln High School.
