The Senegalese riflemen, those men who fought in the ranks of the French army for France, shed their blood and risked their lives for a country that persists in refusing reinstatement to French nationality, or a simple regularization in France. a direct son or grandchild ending up without papers. A little historical reminder: the Senegalese riflemen are colonial infantry troops recruited in sub-Saharan Africa engaged alongside France in its various military operations from 1857 to 1960. Whether for its wars of colonial conquest, for the two world conflicts, for the wars of Indochina or Algeria, France has largely appealed to these African fighters to overcome the lack of strength in the ranks of his army. These wars cost the lives of thousands of them, and many have become disabled. On the front, there was no difference between the blood shed by African fighters and that of French fighters. But "these black mastiffs of the Empire," as Leopold Sedar Senghor nicknamed them, have never received the recognition they deserve. Some of these Frenchmen by the heart today have sons or grandsons living in terribly precarious and sometimes undocumented situations on our territory. After long years in France, some of their sons or grandsons took steps to obtain French nationality, while others were regularized without success.
