I made a booking online for two tickets, with British Airways. I was intending to fly to Kenya.
Due to the political crisis in Kenya at the moment, it is not safe to travel to Kenya. I therefore had no choice but to cancel the flights but Kevin and Betty at the British Airways customer service center said that tickets are not refundable no matter what the situation is. They suggested I rebook for another day which will include a "change fee" of $200 per ticket plus the difference in the price of the ticket.
I believe I am not the only one who was affected by this situation. There are numerous of other people out there like me.
This is a petition to British Airways and to all other major airlines that had flights to Kenya around the New Year season.
Due to the current political situation in Kenya, it has been unsafe to travel to Kenya since December 30th 2007 and therefore, numerous people including myself have been forced to cancel the airline tickets.
Airline companies like British Airways are not refunding monies paid to them for the tickets stating that they are non-refundable no matter what the situation is. They need to understand that the cancellation of the flights is not due to our own conveniences.
It took a few days for British Airways themselves to realise that it is not safe to travel to Kenya at this time. If you have been affected by this situation, no matter what airline you were travelling with to Kenya during these times, please sign this petition and next to your name please mention the airline that you were intending to travel with to Kenya in the additional comments section.
Even if you were not travelling, but agree that this is an issue for the affected people, please offer your support by signing the petition. Thank you very much for your support.
