Throughout the 61 years Ganesha High School has been home to the Giants, we, citizens of Pomona, have always been aware of the high-Latinx Student-Body present among our academic and personal communities. Pomona is a city with a predominately based African American and Latinx population, with Latinx students accounting for a stowering 93% of Ganesha's Student-Body. Our campus is built upon the traditions of the past, allowing for the possibility of excellence and individual growth within the year (s) our students call us home.

It has been made apparent to many students that Ganesha High's MEChA (Movimiento Estudiantil Chicanx de Aztlán) Club has been on a steady decline for years, no longer attracting the attention of our student-body. As a student, an involved community member, a citizen of Pomona, I, Fernanda Frausto, among many other students make a call to action for Ganesha High's MEChA Club to regain prestige, excellence, and a symbol of Chicanx Power. It is important for our students to know where we come rom, know our heritage and in a tense political climate, know that we can leave the halls of Ganesha High with our chins held high, ready to venture out and expand our educations way past we could have ever dreamed. MEChA signifies political a new political consciousness among our students, the possibility to inform students of where, how to unite; because of such, we, the students of Ganesha High School make a call for reformation to our MEChA Club, a Club with no voice for its very own students.

“MEChA must bring to the mind of every young Chicana or Chicano that the liberation of her/his people from prejudice and oppression is in her/his hands and this responsibility is greater than personal achievement and more meaningful than degrees, especially if they are earned at the expense of her/his identity/cultural integrity. MEChA is more than a name; it is a spirit of unity, of sisterhood and brotherhood, and a resolve to undertake a struggle for liberation in society where justice is but a word. MEChA is a means to an end.” (El Plan de Santa Barbara)
