An off duty Police officer in Lubbock Texas responded when three men tried to run over his cat with a truck. He grabbed the driver (his neighbor) by the throat and lectured him for about a minute. He was placed on admin leave pending a week "investigation".
He was then forced to resign after 15 years of exemplary service. His attornies informed Ofc. Paul that the D.A. did not wish to prosecute, but did so under pressure from the Lubbock Chief of Police, Claude Jones. There has been considerable public outcry over this event, and the LPD is not responding in any way.

Regarding former Police Officer Marshall Paul, we, the undersigned, insist upon a full explanation from LPD Administration for what appears to be an arbitrary and unprecedented form of discipline.
Officer Paul is required by Texas Law to protect any animal in his custody, and it is clear that he showed a great deal of restraint in dealing with the man who acted to kill this animal. The LPD did not investigate nor adjudicate this abuse of an animal. We insist as well on a thorough and complete Internal Affairs investigation into this matter and for the re-instatement of Officer Marshall Paul.
