The Potomac School Calendar has undergone several major changes over the past three years. The current draft of the 2012-2013 calendar also proposes many changes. For example, the date in which school starts/ends has shifted (August 5, 2012 - June 14, 2013), holidays have been shortened, and teachers are expected to work more days with no pay compensation.
These alterations have caused difficulty for families associated with our schools in planning vacations. Moreover, changes cause people to question the validity of the school's academic program. The reasons behind the changes have not been communicated. Finally, teachers, principals, and schools overall benefit has not been considered.
Because Potomac Conference spans such a broad distance, we have chosen to use technology as a means of communicating to our professional co-workers.
We, the undersigned, call on the Potomac Conference Office of Education to a higher level of communication. Specifically how how the future calendar will affect us and the high quality, Christ-centered education in which we can grow our schools and create healthy disciples.
