Club House On Bardon Park?

Without any real consultation to the community that uses Bardon Park as a Neighbourhood Park, Randwick City Council has granted the Coogee Dolphins Sports Club 8 hours a week of exclusive use contrary to the councils own guidelines on Neighbourhood Parks.

BUT the Coogee Dolphins were not happy with that.

THE COOGEE DOLPHINS WANTED MORE

From their website here is what they wanted

“That Randwick council instruct its public works department to have the ground brought up to a standard that is acceptable under OH & S and that the ground be marked as a Rugby League Ground with posts. That Randwick Council organise immediately the construction of an amenities block including a storage facility. That the restriction on numbers be deleted. That the hours be extended from 3.30pm to 8pm. That the ground be cleaned of any dog deposits at least 1 hour prior to each training session. That dogs not be allowed to be unleashed and allowed to run on the ground whilst we are training”.

The Coogee Dolphins clearly want to take Bardon Park from the community and make it their own and the Randwick Council has let them get a foot in the door.

Plans have already been drawn for constrtuction in the Northeast corner of the park. I have seen them!

Toilet blocks in isolated areas like Bardon Park attract unsavoury characters loitering in the area.

The cost to build it is estimated at $700,00.

Coogee Dolphins first choice of practice fields was Grant Reserve, which is a large grassed area and already has an amenities block, drinking fountains and other facilities suited to hosting football.

Say No to Club House at Bardon Park.

We the undersigned are strongly opposed to any proposal to erect an amenities block at Bardon Park to accommodate the request of the Coogee Dolphins Sports Club.

Such a structure would attract an unsavoury element to the park during periods of low park activity.

The cost of building and maintaining such a structure for the express purpose of accommodating a very small minority of the community is a massive waste of public funds. There are similar facilities at existing sports fields more suitable to the Coogee Dolphins

We say NO to an amenities block at Bardon Park.
