Network Rail have recently re-taken control of the car park at Blackheath station after the Lewisham Council's lease expired.

They now plan massive, inflation-busting rises in parking charges that threaten the vitality of local businesses and the farmers market, as well as demanding more from hard-pressed commuters who already face large rises in their train fares.

We the undersigned object strongly to new parking charges being introduced by Network Rail at the Blackheath station car park, including the introduction of charges for the first time during evening hours and on Sundays.

The 43% rise in the hourly charge for parking threatens the economic vitality of Blackheath Village. The £400 increase in the annual season ticket is astronomical and comes at a time when household incomes are being squeezed.

We ask that Network Rail, as a state-owned company, take greater account of the communities which they serve and keep charges and non-chargeable times at levels previously set by Lewisham Council.
