We are in a secluded area of private estate homes. When the original developer divided the property acreages, he was required to create a small park, which for the most part is naturally bordered by forest and green belt. Dog owners in the area have enjoyed this small meadow park for over ten years. They have been able to let their dogs off leash without fear of road traffic or encountering many people.
The park is empty 95% of the time. Recently, a new family moved in the area and their fenced acreage backs onto the park. They have now contacted the city to post an on leash sign with a penalty of $2000. Those of us who have reliable dogs would like to make this an off leash park.
There are so few areas where dogs can run off leash in this area. Some people move to the country and the first thing they want to do is get rid of all the wildlife, dogs and whatever else they find inconvenient.
We, the undersigned, call on the city of Surrey park board to make Bayview neighbourhood Park an off-leash park, effective immediately.
