Lucan has over 46,000 people, yet no public swimming pool.
In the 70's and 80's Lucan families donated monies towards leisure facilities.
A pool was planned to go alongside Lucan Leisure Centre in Griffeen Park; the perfect location, with 10+ schools within a 2 mile-radius, on bus-routes and with the space to develop proper parking for users.
It is important that the pool be a public one; private pool facilities are NOT governed by any water-standards for cleanliness, but public pools are.
In the OO's Lucan was again promised a pool by the government, but nothing happened.
For planning purposes, Lucan is often lumped together with Clondalkin, but no connecting bus-service runs between the two towns. In order to access pool-facilities, Lucan people have to drive or bus to Palmerstown, Clondalkin or Leixlip.
Many, many smaller towns around Ireland have their own dedicated public swimming pools.
Before another generation grows up without a pool, we, then undersigned are calling on South Dublin County Council and our Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport to priotitise funding to help get Lucan Swimming Pool built, as fast as possible.
