On February 10, 2009, Hyatt Global Corporation suddenly and unexpectedly announced to employees that the evening dinner service at the California Market restaurant at the Highland Inn will be discontinued as of March 7, 2009. At that time, they provided only a very vague explanation as to why this extreme measure was being taken and offered nothing regarding severance or relocation options.
This closure is not only an immense disappointment to the entire Monterey Peninsula community and thousands of tourists, but also forces huge financial burden upon many of its loyal, dedicated employees.
This petition is to stop the closure of the California Market restaurant at the Hyatt Highland Inn, California.
Over the past few decades, the California Market has been host to hundreds of local patrons as well as thousands of out of state and international visitors on vacation, celebrating a special occasion, enjoying a romantic interlude at sunset, whale watching or simply relaxing into the spectacular view. Enriching the dining experience, are the many friendly and professional employees, providing the highest quality service with their own personal touch of excellence. So many wonderful and cherished memories, traditions and friendships surround this long-standing establishment.
Unfortunately, Hyatt Global Corporation has decided to discontinue the dinner service at The California Market. We find this viewpoint extremely short-sighted. This closure is not only an immense disappointment to the entire Monterey Peninsula community and thousands of tourists, but also forces huge financial burden upon many of its loyal, dedicated employees.
In a community known for its respect and preservation of nature and natural beauty, would it not be foolish to lose this unique and beloved venue, so ideally positioned to quietly enjoy the magnificent view and sea breezes along the beautiful California coastline?
