Greg Hicks, a Charleston businessman and owner of Hicks Outdoor Advertising, has received approval for a variance from the Wood County Commission. He wishes to build a video lottery establishment just outside of Williamstown on Waverly Road. He needed approval of a variance because there is an ordinance in place that prevents him from building there. He is within 1,000 feet of several residences, and also within 1,000 feet of the soccer fields which are used by many area children of all ages. These two things alone should have stopped him. This location is also very close to the RIverview Cemetery and the entrance/exit will meet Waverly Road at one of the most dangerous curves on the road. In addition, the Compliance Officer for Wood County, in studying this property and location, found him to be in violation of section 4 Land Use Provisions, so she advised the Commission to DENY the variance. They ignored her recommendation when Mr. Hicks' attorney requested a variance. We are presenting this petition to the Wood County Commission on Monday morning.

By signing, you are asking the Wood County Commission to revoke the variance to Mr. Hicks, thus preventing him from having a video lottery business on Waverly Road.
