Thanks for your support signing the petition, "Keep Heritage Community Services in CCSD." Great news! Your voices were heard and the school board voted 6-3 in favor of including Heritage Community Services as one of its options in addressing Comprehensive Health Education in Charleston County Public Schools.
Heritage Community Services has provided character-based, abstinence education at no cost to thousands of students in Charleston County School District for over 10 years. Of those, 90% would recommend the program to a friend. A research study showed that participants reported initiating sexual activity at half the rate of similar non-program students a year after completing the Heritage program.
The Heritage program is supplemental and, as directed by the Charleston County School Board, principals decide if they would like for Heritage to serve their school.
On Monday, June 28, 2010, the Charleston County School Board will be voting to discontinue Heritage Community Services in its public schools.
