We are a part of nature and nature is a part of us.
My name is Xavier, I am 6 years old and I am very concerned about the amount of plastic going to landfill and ending up in our waterways and oceans. This is a big problem for our planet. Hundreds of thousands of whales, dolphins, seals and turtles are killed by ocean plastic pollution every year. Plastic pollution in Earth’s environment affects wildlife, animal habitats and humans. Plastic releases harmful chemicals into the soil which contaminates water and our food.
We need to keep plastic pollution out of nature. We already have simple ways to recycle hard plastic but recycling soft plastic is difficult because we need to collect, keep and take it to the shop to recycle it. It would be much better to give all households a recycling bin just for soft plastics or for it to be included in the hard plastic recycling bin. Soft plastic is everywhere in our packaging. I think that much more soft plastic would be recycled if every home had a special recycling bin for this or if it could be included in the recycling bins we already have. I think it is very important that all houses, schools and shops have a recycling bin for soft plastic because this will make a big difference to our planet.

I, Xavier de Souza, call on local councils to introduce recycling bins for soft plastic to all households.
