The lack of LGBTQIA+ education that is taught in English schools has evidently resulted in harm in a high percentage of adolescents who are queer. For example, there has been shown of 90% of teachers that have witnessed homophobic bullying and also 52% of self harm in queer youths. This is appalling. As little children, we are taught not to hate, yet we are also taught the stereotypes and how to live a life of rules that are not set to love but were set to survive in a society that does not love. This was given to us from a 150 year old school guideline. Fix the system, not the children.
We, the undersigned, call on the government, the Department for Education, and all who are responsible for controlling the education system, to actively include queer education into the regular curriculum for all students across England.
