This is an urgent request for help from the community of Barnoldswick.

George & Patricia have lived in Barnoldswick for over 50 years and the majority at 3 Taylor Street, Barnoldswick.. Following a recent burglary at there home, they added a porch to give them more protection from Burglars.

The council have asked them to remove the Porch and refused planning permission twice after asking George & Patricia to submit it part way through the Porch being built.

They stated, it was built in artificial stone and even when George & Patricia appealed and offered to have it rebuilt in natural stone and be pretty much a clone of the house, the Council still said it had to be took down.. Stating the following reasons.

The materials used for the porch extension are unsuitable for the age and style of the property. The artificial stone extension has adverse effects on the character and appearance of the local area. The proposal is at odds with the regular rhythm of the frontages on that particular row of properties and therefore fails to comply with Policies ENV1 and ENV2 of the Pendle Borough Council Local Plan Part 1: Core Strategy 2011 – 2030), the Conservation Area Design and Development Guidance Supplementary Planning Document and the Design Principles Supplementary Planning Document.

This is clearly wrong for the following two reasons.

a - One of the most notable features of Taylor Street is the varying design extensions to the properties on the Semi side and on the terrace side the varying back garden styles and front yard enhancements such has walls, hedges, fences all varying and which have altered over time, which give a lot of character to the street.

b - The house is constructed using local stone with a Welsh slated roof, and George & Patricia offered to rebuild the porch in the same stone and slate.. They believe as do many other people within the Barnoldswick community that the proposed changes to the Porch though will make a significant and beneficial contribution to the house and become very much a part of its character, improving the overall character of the street scene and quality of the area.

Please like and Share this Page to help save the Porch.

We the undersigned call on Pendle Borough Council to reverse there Planning Decision and allow the Porch at 3 Taylor Street to stay once rebuilt in Natural stone.
