235 people signed a public petition (both online and off) to object to this development in August, and the effect of this groundswell of local opinion was that the application was withdrawn and revised.

The REVISED application is now out for public consultation. As you can see from the aerial picture of the revised proposal, VERY LITTLE HAS CHANGED: there has been some cosmetic tinkering with appearance of the buildings, and the height of the bottom terrace of houses has been reduced. The overall plan remains the same.

Demolition of all the historic buildings on the site, and their replacement by 8 houses, a flat, and a small 'community' building for the Stone Mines Interpretation Centre – still too much development. The amendments made do not address the major objections raised by local residents. Repeated calls on the Homes and Communities Agency and the Local Authority for a proper consultation with local residents have sadly been ignored - a much better solution can be found than the one proposed. Since the re-submission nullifies all previous objections, the only option is to object again.

We the undersigned favour the principle of an appropriate Stone Mines Interpretation Centre and call on B&NES to reject the current proposed development scheme on the Gammon Yard Site in Rock Hall Lane because of (i) the destruction of historic buildings on the site; (ii) the adverse impact on the Conservation Area; (iii) it constitutes overdevelopment of the site and (iv) the impact on parking and traffic. We call on the HCA and B&NES to institute a proper process of consultation to find the best solution for this important site.
