Two Iranian Kurdish labor activists, Afshin Nedimi and Mehrdar Sabori, visited Iraqi Kurdistan in October 2013. Kurdish labor organizations state that both men mysteriously disappeared when they returned to Iranian Kurdistan from Iraqi Kurdistan.

It became clear on November 18 that Iran’s intelligence agency had arrested the two labor activists. The two men were members of a Kurdish labor organization, visited Iraqi Kurdistan to find work.

Kurdish cultural, political, human rights and other activists are singled out by the Intelligence Ministry, Revolutionary Guards and other repressive organs of the Islamic Republic of Iran for especially harsh persecutions, including imprisonment, torture, and death sentences after flagrantly unfair trials.

WHEREAS: Afshin Medimi and Mehrdar Sabori are labor activists and thus are to be considered prisoners of conscience for as long as they are detained by the Islamic Republic of Iran's Intelligence Ministry;

AND WHEREAS: Their "disappearance" after being arrested by the Intelligence Ministry violates all norms of international justice;

AND WHEREAS: As civil society activists in Iran--of KURDISH origin--they are both in ESPECIALLY GRAVE danger of being tortured and subjected to a patently unfair trial followed by a harsh sentence;

THEREFORE: We, the undersigned, demand that the international community bring all possible pressure to bear upon the Islamic Republic of Iran to IMMEDIATELY and UNCONDTIONALLY release Afshin Nedimi and Mehrdar Sabori and explain the basis for their detention.
