Halstead Avenue in Mamaroneck is a fast, narrow and dangerous road. Drivers on this road rarely respect pedestrian rights of way at the crosswalk. There are many Rye Neck children of all ages who live across Halstead Ave in the northern part of the village, and even more families with young, elementary school age children who are moving into the neighborhood.
A crossing guard at Halstead & Florence would enable children to walk to school rather than being driven, greatly reducing Village traffic during rush hour. It would also aid in preventing accidents for children who attempt to cross Halstead Ave by themselves.
To further support the cause, please attend the July 12 Traffic meeting at 7:30pm in Village Hall at 169 Pleasant Ave (across from the library), where this issue is already on the agenda.
We, the undersigned, request that the Village station a crossing guard at the intersection of Florence Street and Halstead Avenue. Halstead Avenue in Mamaroneck is a fast, narrow and dangerous road. Drivers on this road rarely respect pedestrian rights of way at the crosswalk. Statistic shows that the presence of a crossing guard is enough to encourage drivers to obey traffic laws, and stop at the crosswalk.
