Build A Body Kid's Fitness, Inc. (BABKF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to fighting the childhood obesity epidemic in the USA. Approximately 17% (or 12.5 million) of children and adolescents aged 2-19 years are obese.
Since 1980, the obesity prevelance among children and adolescents has almost tripled.
There are significant racial and ethnic disparities in obesity prevalence among U.S. children and adolescents. In 2007-2008, Hispanic boys, aged 2-19 years, were significantly more likely to be obese than non-Hispanic white boys, and non-Hispanic black girls were significantly more likely to be obese than non-Hispanic white girls.
In an effort to assist BABKF, Christian Embassy Church of Black Jack, MO, has designated BABKF as the 2012 recipient of proceeds raised at Harvest Fest 2012 on September 15, 2012.
Additional supporters include St. Louis Health Department, St. Louis County Health Department, Normandy School District, 100 Black Men of St. Louis, Body Wise 1on1 and countless others.
